People have said to me in the past that we’re a really ‘outdoorsy’ family, and i’m like, no way! I’m the first to admit that I love nothing better than a beautiful coffee shop and the chance to enjoy some coffee and cake! Are we outdoorsy……? We both have mainly outdoor jobs, working shifts in all weathers and we’re both volunteer lifeboat crew! (okay maybe just a little!)
But anyone who knows us really well will know that we have a bit of a thing for lighthouses. Chris’s grandfather was a lightkeeper and from his close relationship with his grandad Chris has a real passion for lighthouses and his enthusiasm has carried us along with him, we got engaged at the top of a lighthouse in County Donegal and Hannah sure knows a lighthouse when she sees one!
We are so lucky to live in a country where we are never too far away from the sea and Ireland certainly has it’s fair share of lighthouses, we have visited many over the last few years and we certainly have a few favourites. So when Lighthouse Clothing contacted me asking if i’d be interested in collaborating with them this winter I jumped at the chance! Lighthouse Clothing is an exciting outerwear brand for men, ladies and kids based in Belfast, their simple philosophy –
‘to encourage the wanderer, the sea lover and the great adventurer in us all through quality, inspiring clothing’
Realising that it was almost a year since our last visit we packed a picnic and headed off on a little road trip to a favourite spot, St John’s Point Lighthouse, Killough. It was blustery, it was freezing….. but thankfully not raining! (yet!)
It was a tough decision but I eventually choose the Reva Waterproof Parka in plum, with its padded waterproof outer and shearling lining in the hood and body it is perfectly cosy. I love the attention to detail in the finish and the gorgeous berry colour, the two way zip is great to allow flexibility in chasing after a little on and deep pockets are a must for all those mummy essentials and tissues! Much as this is a perfect winter coat it will also see you through the seasons for those cold evening walks in autumn and spring. See more of the ladies collection here.
For Hannah I chose the Carrie waterproof Coat, its lightweight and breathable with a soft jersey lining, I wanted something that would see her through spring and summer but it’s also perfect for now layered up with a little fleece and hat and scarf. The front zip with the snap button cover and elasticated cuffs are sure to keep any chills out, and the colour, I just loved this vibrant print which is perfectly girly, and I think our little poser loved it too! Check out the full children’s range here.
The weather was so changeable and we quickly lost the vivid blue sky but that did not deter our adventures! A quick warm up in the car with scrummy sandwiches and a flask of hot soup and we were ready for the road again. Heading along the coast we enjoyed the views while Hannah had a snooze and we headed home on the all new Strangford Ferry (as if daddy doesn’t see enough of his work!)
A big thank you to Lighthouse Clothing for partnering with us and providing our beautiful coats, as always all views and opinions are my own.
