Last month we set off on our holidays as a family of three with a bump! This was our first family experience travelling on a plane so it was always going to be an exciting and nerve wrecking adventure!

We jetted off from Belfast City Airport to sunny Malaga, neither of us have ever been on a package holiday in Spain but we choose Benalmadena and felt a touristy location with a swimming pool, nearby beach and lots of bars and restaurants would be exactly what we’d need when taking away an almost two year old! Our flight was about two and a half hours with a transfer from the airport of approx. 30 minutes so we felt this would be more than long enough for our first holiday abroad with a little person!

Our hotel was perfect for young kids, our room was spacious and the balcony overlooked the water park, the facilities were fab and there was a great selection of food. There were lots of families so there was always a busy, buzzing atmosphere about the place, the evening entertainment was tailored towards the kids with balloon modelling, mini discos and bird displays to name but a few.

The balcony was a God send, the front of it was made of safety glass meaning Hannah could see through it and watch the goings on in the water park! She wasn’t really keen on the pool, she’s a bit of a cautious, people watcher at times and preferred to watch from the side lines and just dip her feet, the sand on the beach was much more her thing!

We knew we wouldn’t get much of a chance to relax but we enjoyed getting out and about for lots of walks, eating ice cream and seeing the boats (she’s definitely her daddy’s daughter!) We visited Tivoli World, the local amusement park as well as the aquarium, local marina and the local park and gardens which had a large lake and lots of ducks, chickens and wildlife. All the things to keep an almost two year old busy and happy! Our highlight was a day trip to Gibraltar and Hannah just loved seeing the monkeys and visiting the lighthouse.

While we were on holiday the sun ironically spent a week in Northern Ireland, but thankfully we have been enjoying lots of sunny days since we returned, although June is off to a very mixed start! I must say I love looking back on all our blue sky, sunny day photos, it really was a much needed holiday for us as like most working parents we do a fair amount of juggling throughout the year.

Thanks for reading!
