If you follow us on instagram you will know we had a little break away in Donegal this past week. We just love Donegal, we were staying at Inishowen Head Lighthouse, we are lucky enough to be able to stay here as they are one of only a few places available only to the families of light keepers. Chris’s late grandfather was a lightkeeper so we are able to enjoy the use of these cottages through his grandmother. They are really basic and not much has been done to them over the years but they are a great base for travelling around and we also get to enjoy fantastic views and beautiful beaches.
Stroove Beach is right on our doorstep, it is a blue flag beach and is lifeguard patrolled during the summer season. The Donegal people are so friendly and everyone is just so easy going, the scenery is breathtaking and the sound of the wind and waves at night is something else!
We really just took it easy this week and the weather was pretty kind to us, it was a reminder that it really is the simple things that make for the best family times. Hannah really enjoyed herself and she just seems to have changed and developed so much this last week, her daddy has been teaching her about boats and lighthouses and its amazing just how she soaks everything up. She loves being outside so long walks, pottering around, looking for the cows and sheep, feeding the horses and going to the beach were top of our list and right on our doorstep. We also enjoyed play parks, looking for fairies, as well as coffee stops and cream buns. We had a couple of rainy evenings indoors but we had fun building duplo and reading books.
Greencastle and Moville are close by so are handy for picking up supplies, we also travelled across on the Foyle Ferry as it runs until the end of September. We explored Buncrana, Ballyliffin, Bridge End, Carndonagh and Dunaff. There is lots to see and do and fantastic scenery if you follow the Wild Atlantic Way
I hope you enjoyed our little holiday round up!
